I am posting a well thought out plan, written by Eileen Souza  [ Eileen A. Souza } for those considering transitioning from Family Tree Maker to another program,

Much like Eileen, I have some of those programs on my computer, and have for years, to see how they work, and DO they work for me.

My only plan, besides keep on doing what I am doing, is to work MORE on the Genealogy Do-Over that Thomas MacEntee encourages us to do. I am NOT Starting Over, but bringing my master file into a better state of affairs. I have blogged about that, and will continue to do that.

I do suggest that you read this blog post. It's great.

How building your family tree on Famberry could help you claim aninheritance

How building your family tree on Famberry could help you claim an inheritance

London, England (December 18th, 2015)

Famberry (www.famberry.com), the private collaborative family tree builder, is pleased to announce the release of a new innovative Family Tree Buillder with technology to help you claim an unknown inheritance. Building your photo family tree on Famberry has never been easier with new innovative controls, artistic themes that allow you to customize the look of your family tree and a whole host of other features, including; timelines, personal photo albums and messaging. With Famberry, building your family tree and preserving your family history is truly a family activity.

The new family tree builder gives members the chance to claim a real inheritance that could be worth millions. Each day we check your Famberry family tree against the UK unclaimed estates list and notify the relevant family member if we find indications that they may be entitled to an inheritance. Each inheritance could be monetary, possessions or property and could be worth thousands or millions of pounds.

The free new service is provided as part of complete re-write of the popular family tree builder, which also boasts an innovative family photo album, shared family organiser and a private family social network making it an ideal and cost effective place to preserve and share your family history.

“We have worked hard to innovate in the area of family tree building by talking to users to find out what really matters to them. We believe that our family tree builder is the simplest to grasp on the market.” said Steve Bardouille, co-founder of Famberry.

Famberry’s photo album functionality looks set to bring the family album into the 21st century. Not only can you store up to 2Gb (that’s thousands of photos) for free; your whole family can collaborate to collate and share their photo albums. Full browser screen display of your photo albums, photo swiping, photo tagging and drag and drop re-ordering of your photos means that you not only store your photos but more importantly you can share them with the people you care about automatically.

Not stopping there, Famberry’s flagship family social network has also been re-imaged to allow families to stay in contact with each other, without worrying about prying eyes. Family members can share messages, photos, videos and documents on their own completely private family social network.

Famberry’s free service has no restrictions on functionality and gives a generous 2Gb of photo space to start you storing your family history with your family. For those who want even more for their families, Famberry has introduced new upgrade options. Members can upgrade to a premium account to share up to 50Gb of space with their family and a whole host of additional features for only $7.99 a month or $77 for a yearly subscription. Professional family historians have the option to store up to 1Tb of photos and build unlimited client and personal family trees on Famberry for only $30.99 per month.

“If you have ever been given a family heirloom, you know how precious it is; full of history and significance. Famberry is your family’s digital heirloom, useful today, but even more precious in the future. Start capturing your family story together with your family today.”

About Famberry

Famberry, based in London, England was started in 2013 by families who were frustrated with the lack of privacy and controls on social networks and wanted a place that their family life could be documented, without being sold or shared with unknown third parties. With award winning customer service, Famberry lets you access your family tree, photos and keep in contact with your family anywhere that you have access to the Internet.

FTM2014 and DNA, a follow up.

Earlier, I shared a blog post on how I use FTM2014 and AncestryDNA.

https://plus.google.com/+RussWorthington/posts/R45kL4Vtkqk

and was talking about how I am using this combination to help a cousin, locate her grandparents.

I had enough information that I thought I would really look at that online tree. It WAS / IS documented. Happy Dance, I thought. BUT the image with this post has the 1910 Residence Fact twice. Once at age 23, son of head of household, and the second was 50, as the head of household.

Was this a data entry / accepting an Ancestry Hint issue?

Because of the nature of this research question, I am not, yet, ready to send off an email making a connection. But clearly the right time and place. Now to find a City Directory to locate Ward 39 in Philadelphia.

Hi Cousin Russ .

Hi Cousin Russ ...I know you have done work with city directories and I have now found them for some of my ancestors also.  Question - do you consider a city directory to be Original, Derivative or Authored work?  Honestly, I could make a case for all 3 but interested to hear what others are doing.

Thank you!

Salt Lake City – June 25, 2015

Findmypast, a global leader in family history, announced today the official release of their product for libraries and organizations in the United States. The Findmypast Library Edition gives library access to billions of records from Findmypast’s wide array of collections from the United States, Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, and other areas of the world. Collection highlights include:
·         Largest online collection of parish records from the United Kingdom

·         Exclusive access to the new PERiodical Source Index (now with images)

·         Most comprehensive Irish family history records in the world

Amongst the billions of records now available to library patrons is the new PERiodical Source Index (PERSI). PERSI, a popular tool used by genealogists, includes more than 2.5 million indexed entries from thousands of genealogical and local history publications. For the first time, images of articles have been included in the collection – with more being added on a regular basis.

“We are delighted to bring the best resource for British and Irish family history to America’s library market,” said Annelies van den Belt, CEO of Findmypast.

The Library Edition provides tools for patrons to work in tandem with a library’s subscription and at home. Individual user accounts allow patrons to build their own family tree, save records from the library’s subscription, and continue working on their family tree.  Library patrons will also have access to Findmypast’s Hints, which aids in the discovery of records from their own family tree.

Librarians can contact librarysales@findmypast.com for further information, pricing, and to start a free 90-day free trial of the product.

Russ,  I have a question for you -- I use both Family Tree Maker 2014 and Ancestry and they are synced sorta.  So I wanted to put up a new tree on Ancestry - BUCHHOLZ-CLARKSON2014.  BUT none of my pictures came thru.  So instead of deleting the old tree -- I just renamed it until I could get the pictures into the new tree.  Old BUCHHOLZ-CLARKSON2012   Is there a way to do this?   Thanks

Welcome to all who are coming to this site from RootsTech 2015!

We had another successful year at the Evidentia booth, and met so many interesting people – and so many of you were excited about Evidentia!

Evidentia was mentioned in several of the educational sessions at RootsTech this year, and we thank you for this unsolicited support!  It looks like genealogy is catching up with what Evidentia has to offer!  I also want to thank my wife, Becky Thompson, for assisting me at the booth this year.  I loved hearing her say “our software…”.

The downside of having my wife at a convention with me is that she has twisted my arm until I agreed to extend the conference price to EVERYONE for the rest of February.  Those of you who were on the fence at the convention can still save $5 if you purchase Evidentia in the next 2 weeks.

I also want to remind all of you about our special training session next week.  On Friday, Feb 20th 8:30 PM EST we will be presenting our live training session “Getting Started with Evidentia” as a special Google Hangout On Air.  You do not need to own Evidentia to attend, but you DO NEED TO REGISTER at http://evidentiasoftware.com/events-2 if you want to be eligible for a door prize.

Did I say DOOR PRIZE?  I picked up several goodies at RootsTech and we will be giving them away during the hangout on Friday.  You must be ‘present’ to win, and you must be registered.

We will be offering other training this year, but this will be the only opportunity to win a door prize.

Be sure to sign up for our mailing list to stay up to date with the latest training opportunities. You can sign up here.

I am having a strange problem with publishing a descendant report in familytreemaker version 2014 in windows 7.  Every paragraph in the report begins with the same phrase instead of the person's name. The phrase does not even pertain to any of the individuals in the report.  It is probably born August 1894 in Worcester, son of William and Josephine.  I cannot figure out what is causing this to happen.  Any ideas?

Hi Russ.

Hi Russ...   Thought I'd share today's experience with FTM and AMT with you.  Recently found out that if you UPLOAD your FTM file to AMT in the hopes that any errors in the file will be fixed, and then download that AMT file to a newly created file in FTM, the TASKS are lost.  All 1600 of mine are not in my newly created FTM file.  I guess when FTM and AMT sync files, the TASKS are not touched, which is why FTM still has the TASKS in the FTM file, even if you'd made changes to you AMT.   This makes me wonder if one's FTM file is really totally backed up by the AMT file.    Thanks for listening... aka SAM

Hi Russ Worthington .

Hi Russ Worthington ....it suddenly occurred to me that while I do a good job now of citing my documents and research findings in Evidentia and FTM 2014 I don't do anything to the hard copy/ paper documents that I have acquired. That get citations added to them in the database but I haven't been putting that info on the doc itself. These documents I am referring to are like vital records I have been getting from county clerks or probate files from a circuit clerk.

What is the best way to put the citation on the physical doc itself and where do you put is? Front? Back? In ink or pencil?

Thank you.

If you sync your FTM file to Ancestry.com and them have to download that tree back down to FTM a at some point, does the task list come back with it?
