Here is the presentation of the Office Hours Webinar. The earlier Video was not complete, but it was also a learning experience to see how the Zoom Webinar Platform would work as a replacement for this Google+ Community.

Please look at the Comments, below this video, for the Poll Questions that was asked and please respond with your feedback.

FTM-2017 Office Hours

FTM-2017 Office Hours

I have been thinking of having Office Hours. A specific date and time to talk about the Family Tree Maker program, using the Zoom Meeting or Zoom Webinar platform.

For testing purposes, they would start from this Community, it pay or may not be recorded. If it is recorded, it would be published on the Blog.

In that this community will go away in a couple of months, ultimately these meetings will move over to the Blog, probably another Tab on the blog.

The Webinar Platform will be the normal platform, but some informal discussions will have to take place on the Meeting Platform.

A "normal" meeting date and time, hopefully, will be established, remembering that the recordings would be available.

The Zoom Platform is an easy to use Video Platform. Screen Sharing is fantastic, and the platform is very stable.

It has a Typed Chat, Audio and Video capability. A Wired Connection between your computer and the internet is RECOMMENDED, Headset should be used, and a WebCam.

IF there is any interest is doing this, please leave a Comment. IF you specifically want to help test this concept out, make that known in the Comments. I am thinking of a Test Run the week between Christmas and New Years.

Its a concept I have thought about for a long time, just did not have the right platform, and with the Community going away, I wanted to find a replacement platform.

A Tab on the Blog will probably be the new home, but have to make sure that it will technically work.

Please leave your comments.

Project Strobe: Protecting your data, improving our third-party APIs,and sunsetting consumer Google+

Project Strobe: Protecting your data, improving our third-party APIs, and sunsetting consumer Google+

https://www.blog.google/technology/safety-security/project-strobe/

This is an FYI - I don't completely understand where the "sunsetting of Google+" will lead us (me), but I am now aware that something is going to happen on Google+ in 2019.

Bottom line, from what I have been reading, the use of Google+, and I am guessing Google+ Communities for the consumer (you and I) is not being used in the way it had been hoped / projected to be used.

I will not say that "facebook won", but certainly from my circles, facebook is where folks are.

Not giving up yet, but wanted you ALL to know what's going on with Google+ and that i am aware of this and looking for another home.

There are entirely too many Family Tree Maker user groups on facebook, so I am not likely to go there. I find them too unfriendly for my taste, have been "kicked off" a couple of times, my words, not blocked, just received too many negative comments. Too much negative energy in these FB groups, so I have un-joined most of them.

The good news, More Time for Research.

Thanks for listening.

Managing the Data Error Report - Part 1

Managing the Data Error Report - Part 1

Will demonstrate how I now manage the Data Error Report, Part 1

I have figured out a way to Manage the Date Error Report. First, to identify the Potential Errors, Secondly, Give me the ability to SEE that the profile has an Error, Thirdly to Have a ToDo List to work from, by a specific Error Message Group.

I had not been dong a good job of managing these errors at all, until I used the Data Error Report when helping others. (read smaller FILES).

After spending a couple of days, I have 823 Tasks / ToDo Items to work from.

Part 2 will be, so now what. I identified the Errors, found the reason for the Potential Error, Resolve that error in the database, the make sure the Potential Error has been resolved.

I will add a few people to this database, as see if There are NEW Errors. I will also then, clear some of the ones I have identified.

Hi Cousin Russ, last night when working on my FTM, I deleted my grandfather from the tree in error. I thought I was deleting a fact but deleted the person.

I have been trying to add him back but when I do that it makes a new tree.

I see that my grandmother and their children are still in FTM and a box that says "no name" married to my grandmother with their children. When I try to add in his name, the name disappears and still see "no name."

What should I do? Thanks!

Russ I need your logic and ideas how to enter the following in my FTM2017 program.

Russ I need your logic and ideas how to enter the following in my FTM 2017 program. I’m still (3 years later) in the process of cleaning up my 40 year mess, and FTM mess since Banner Blue days.

In the 16, 17, + 18 hundreds, all of my husband’s, and many of my dad’s ancestors and their descendants were buried in their parish cemeteries in Quebec Province. In many instances that parish has had as many as 5 different cemeteries with the same name in different locations. To further complicate the matter, in some, but not all, cases the bodies were exhumed and moved to the new cemetery. Some were exhumed and reburied as many as 3 times, and not always from the first to second, etc., sometimes from the second to the forth, etc.

This leads me to several problems:

I. When entering the Historic Place Name – do I put the name of the cemetery with a number in brackets, or do I put a note in the description field?

II. I have been putting a note in the description indicating from what cemetery to what cemetery? Is this the field I want to put this in?

III. What do I put as the preferred cemetery? The one they were buried in originally or the one they are in now. Using the historic and current name of the cemetery, I have some ancestors with 6 burial facts. Making custom facts ‘buried second time’, ‘buried third time’ might be an answer but it feels cumbersome. [Note: For report purposes, I currently put historic place names as my preferred.]

IV. I also have some ancestors, where the cemetery was destroyed in floods and the bodies ended up in the St. Lawrence River. Do I just make a note of that or is that a new burial fact.

Many thanks for your past and hopefully future help.
Debbie

Does anyone have experience using the online request for Social Security application papers (https://secure.ssa.gov/apps9/eFOIA-FEWeb/internet/main.jsp)? I'm trying to decide if the $21 is worth it for my great-grandmother. She was born over 120 years ago, according to the website there should be no reason they can't release the file. Just wondering how long it takes.

Thanks!

First, Please read the "About Community" if you want to join this community. I look as each request to join but I do review your Google+ Profile to determine what we might have in Common.

Your Questions are Welcome on the Use of the Family Tree Maker program.

This is a User Community, those of us who use the Familyi Tree Maker programs.

When asking questions:

What version of Family Tree Maker are you using AND what version of Windows?

What Workspace are your questions about.?

Please do NOT use Short Cuts in terms. Use terms from the program itself. There is NO FTM17. The Help Menu will give you the information you need.

Thank you
