Just some observations when doing a Web Merge, with FTM2017, with a Social Security Death Index (SSDI) Record. Specifically the Death Location fact, creating / using a Last Residence Fact, a State Issued Fact, and the use of the SSN.

I have a question --

I am using FamilyTreeMaker 2017 with windows 10 and have a large tree on Ancestry. I was trying to replace an older tree BUCHHOLZ-CLARKSON2017 with my latest FTM tree, so I downloaded from Ancestry. Luckily I have not deleted the older tree, even though I upload a NEW tree BUCHHOLZ-CLARKSON2017 Dec, 2017.

Lucky because that new tree does not have any media where as the older tree has 1845. I think I used the advice to just sync between FTM and Ancestry this time. But earlier I use the downloading of a GED from the older tree. Neither gave me the media records. I intend to get my tree all downloaded and then delete the extra tree.

How do I get the media into my FTM2017.

Thanks, MaryinSD

I am using Family Tree Maker 2017 Version 2017 (23.0.2.1343). Windows 10 Home Version 1709 (on desktop), Pro Version (on Surface Pro3 tablet); OS Build 16299.64

I have a couple of questions about media on FTM and Ancestry.

I am using:

• FTM 2017 on Desktop (compacted and backed up) from which I uploaded to
• Ancestry, from which (with LiveChat assistance) I downloaded to
• FTM 2017 on Surface Pro3 tablet (compacted and backed up).

My tree shows, the same number of people in all three places; however, the media workspace/gallery/person profile shows slightly differently in each place. I have some photos I can share of “what I see” if it would be helpful.

1. The media workspace on the desktop shows 149 media items (in categories such as: Cemetery, Census, Documents, Vital Records, etc) and on the tablet shows 146 items (the categories did not transfer over so all the media items show as uncategorized). Is there any way I can order the media workspace in both desktop and tablet so I can compare and see which media items have been misplaced?
2. In Ancestry, the media gallery only shows 20 items. These are mostly photos or photos of documents (which others have sent me or I added from a cousin’s tree). On the other hand, when I go into a person’s profile, I have lots of Ancestry sources I saved from hints or other search results. Any idea how I go about moving these source documents into the Ancestry Media Gallery?

Many thanks for any suggestions.

I want to welcome some new member of this Community. Thanks for joining.

I would like to stress that this is a Genealogy Community, but with a focus on One User's use of a genealogy database management program, Family Tree Maker, specifically (now) FTM2017.

Please read the Pinned Post, at the top of the community. If you have two columns it will be in the Upper Left. Those are what I would like to see IF you have a question for US, the community, to discuss.

I can only share my experience, both in research and in the use of FTM2017.

I am NOT taking away from, nor competing with any Facebook group. I just chose the Google+ Community, for my "sand box", where I will do what I can to help users.

One of the benefits is Notifications when new posts are made. As long as you have Notifications for this community turned ON, you will receive a notification that something new has been added here. That notification will take you to that post.

I do cross posts my Blog into this community. Comments for the specific Blog Posts are welcome. I make very effort to reply to a comment made in either place.

Also, this is NOT the place to report issues about the program. That belongs on the familytreemaker.com website AND you can get there in the Help Menu of FTM2017.

One final comment. My expectation here is Total RESPECT to every one. Discussion and Conversation is most welcome, but with respect to ALL. I will not hesitate to remove anyone from this Community. I have always wanted a safe place to have a conversation.

Again, welcome to the new comers.

Perhaps you can help me restate a problem and advise me on how to report it.

Perhaps you can help me restate a problem and advise me on how to report it. It is an Ancestry error which when allowed to merge into an FTM database will create a family error.
The Ancestry index entryhttp://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=7602&h=77717401&indiv=try
for the Nelson Hinds family in 1900 US Census in Rangeley, Franklin, Maine
has combined two neighboring households. If this record is merged into a tree profile for Nelson Hinds in FTM without any correction, Annie Twombly appears as a wife of Nelson Hinds. This has resulted in several incorrect Ancestry Member Trees
Nelson ?? Hinds 38
Etta P Hinds 27
Pearl H Hinds 60
Harlon W Hinds 8
Agnes L Hinds 6
Lula A Hinds 3
Wallis L Twombly 47
Annie G Twombly 36
Nellie E Twombly 17
Katie I Twombly 15
Nabby F Twombly 13
Almina M Twombly 12
Carol E Twombly 9
Lucy M Twombly 3
Margueriti G Twombly 4/12
I have reported it to Ancestry using the "Report Issue" prompt, but I am not confident that it will reach the correct person, or that I explained it well enough.

I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to learn best practices from your posts, and I fortunately do not add information to my tree without reviewing and editing first.

One of FTM2017's new features is the ability to see Hints from FamilySearch, similar to what we have experienced from Ancestry.
