Question: Genealogy Database Management

Should our Genealogy Database Management software held educate us to be better Researchers ?

  1. I believe so -- but I also think it is the community using the software that also helps develop our research skills. I'm a convert from The Master Genealogist. TMG had a wonderful community that discussed source citations and ways to record and document events. Most of the software programs have communities -- especially on Facebook. Unfortunately, getting connected to these communities may involve connecting in multiple ways: Facebook, company website support group, mailing list. Thus, I must assume some responsibility to grow my skills by checking these multiple resources.

  2. Marcia Philbrick - I agree with we can't be relying on our Software for the Education.

The issue that I am trying to raise, is what Ancestry is doing "for" / To Us. Specifically in presenting Abstracts from Records where the Abstract information has information that is NOT in the record.

I don't care what Ancestry does, but I don't what to see that information when I do a Web Merge with FTM2017 with that Ancestry Record.

The abstract makes is easy for us, BUT we MUST look at the Record.

As a side comment: Facebook is a great place to spend time. BUT, there needs to be a community, like TMG had, where users can discuss "stuff". Facebook isn't that place. (My opinion).

    Thank you for your comments.
