Hi Cousin Russ, I'm stepping into new territory today.

Hi Cousin Russ,

I'm stepping into new territory today. You may have heard that I'm helping our friend and neighbor, J, who is looking for his biological family. I am ready to try to upload his AncestryDNA raw data to FTDNA. Where should I go to begin? Does he need buy anything?

Thanks in advance for the information.

  1. Doris Haskell - sorry, just found the notification of your post.

I would stay with AncestryDNA to see what hints show up there. BUT you need to look at the Location and then the TimeFrame, not names, to see if you can find any possibilities.

I am doing this for a cousin. I get two types of hints from the AncestryDNA. Ones from the known side of the family, her Father, but there are a number of hints that the location and time frames are too far back from a known place and time. I haven't ignored them, just haven't found the closer Date, first, then Location.

Ancestry helps a little better, for me at least, in this area, meaning that show the Location, then you can see the time frame.

    Russ
