Hi Cousin Russ ...I know you have done work with city directories and I have now found them for some of my ancestors also. Question - do you consider a city directory to be Original, Derivative or Authored work? Honestly, I could make a case for all 3 but interested to hear what others are doing.

I also use derivative for city directories, but agree with Cousin Russ that it is weighted more than an index.
ReplyDeleteHaving worked with city directories many years ago for processing credit applications for my dad's business, I know the info was frequently copied from one year to the next several.
ReplyDeleteI'd mention why company was denying credit or asking for more information due to inaccurate address information, I'd be told we haven't lived at THAT address for 5 years, but had lived at the 'vacant lot' for 4.5 years.
I agree fantastic hints as to where families are 'located', but back up with more info when possible
Not too many non military move every year.
