  1. Cousin Russ - thanks so much for this suggestion. I use a Mac and have had the Delicious Library app for a few years. But for some reason, I was keeping my genealogy books on a spreadsheet. I see that the Delicious Library app also allows me to categorize my books on "shelves" so I am going to try to import them. Great tip!

I came across my old Genealogy Book Spreadsheet as I was preparing for this recording and really had to chuckle.

I didn't talk about an APP, where an iPhone or iPad will read the bar code and wifi it to Book Collector. Most of my books were entered that way.

Book Collector has been updated and is far more friendly then when I started. But this Genealogy Do-Over got me to get my Library back in order.

    Good luck,

    Russ

  3. I use book collector for all of my books. I love it. Haven't figured out how to put them on shelves like you have but it still works for me.

I created them, by Adding them to the Genre list in the right column..

Maybe I should do a quick HOA on how I did that.

  5. That would be great. I'm more of a show me how to do it type of person instead of a tell me how to do it type of person.

  6. Hi, Russ,
I was just looking at the Book Collector website. Are you using the Standard or Pro edition?

Because of the number of books that i have, I am using the Pro version.

  8. Books just seem to come into house. They know where the will be loved, just like your book that "walked" into your house. We have the Movie version of this.

  9. June Butka Yes, they just walk into the house. What I am now able to avoid is the Walk Into the House AGAIN. Since going to this, it hasn't happened.

In fact, Patti put a book on her wish list, and I printed out HER shelf, because I had already gotten it for her last year.

I have Audio Books and DVDs put I don't buy them any more and usually don't have time or make time to watch a DVD. Audio Book, not so much any more, because the only time I listen to them is when I am driving. We have slowed down the number of road trips. I have enough books on CD for this year.

  10. Cousin Russ - I've used Book Collector Pro since 2011 and love it! I bought it because I had purchased duplicate books and was tired of wasting money. I only have 327 books, not quite as many as you do. I have three book cases, two with six shelves each and one with four shelves. I assigned letters to each bookcase (A, B, C) and enter the book case and shelf number in the Location field on the Personal tab in Book Collector (e.g. A2 is in book case A, shelf 2). I purchased three different colored adhesive dots to represent the three book cases and put them on the spines of the books in those cases. For example, books on A2 get a pink dot and I write "2" on the dot so I will put it back where I got it. Books in book case B get orange dots and book case C get green dots. I always write the number in pencil so if I need to rearrange them in future, it will be easy to change the number. I also use the removable adhesive labels in case I need to move a book to a different book case. I added the Location column to my main panel List View to easily locate a specific book. And I also sync to the cloud so I can have access to it when I am at a conference.

  11. Sherri Hessick That's a great idea. Hadn't thought about that.

    Thank you,

    Russ

  12. Sherri Hessick  I never thought to do it that way either. Thanks for the idea.
