Russ, Do you know if a new version of FTM is coming out this year? Is there a way in FTM 2014 to turn off the sync function? I am thinking of getting a upgrade just to move my media to RM7 in a GEDcom file. Thanks
I understand that it just has links to the media, but that is better than reattaching thousands of pictures and recordings. The RM7 folks told me that FTM 2014 does put the links in the file.

Just don't use the Sync feature. YOU have complete control over that.
Remember that Media files are NOT included in a GEDCOM file. A GEDCOM file is a plain text file. Any wordprocesser can open it, including Notepad.
