  1. +Russ Worthington I have FTM2012 on my netbook. When I get my new desktop I was thinking of putting it on the desktop computer. If my trees are synced is there anything which would not be transferred over if I synced the desktop. I have done most of my work on the online tree and do not have any hidden notes.

From what you have described, I would unlink your Ancestry Member Trees from your Netbook, then download and LINK to your new Desktop with FTM2012 and let your Desktop be the "master" or controlling computer for all of your Ancestry Member Trees. I am suggesting this as you said you work on your online tree. This gives you a Back Up, on your Desktop, of your AMTs. I haven't lost any time working on my Family File, even though Ancestry is having issues. I can still work on my family file. When Ancestry comes back up, I will update my online trees.

    Hope that helps,

    Russ

  3. +Russ Worthington Thanks when I get the desktop up and running I will do what you suggest.Meanwhile I need to finish cleaning up my main tree which has too many branches of unrelated ancestors of spouses.
I am having to be careful not to remove anyone who may be a cousin. My father in law's parents each had a relative who married which means that the descendants of that couple are related to each of them. There's also a second marriage where the bride and groom are the brother and sister of an ancestor couple. Fortunately there were no cousin marriages from these couples even though there were amongst their ancestors.
This is why I often have a look at the collateral lines, the small communities were often interrelated more than may have been healthy for the population.

That's the fun of Cleaning up your file, vs the "starting over" that DearMYRTLE is doing.

What I am seeing in my clean up, is that I have more information in my database, reviewing all of the sources for that person, to make the determination to keep or remove some one.

So far, I haven't deleted anyone, but I have a couple of "island" folks, that individuals who aren't related but I have a report that will show me those people.

    Good luck,

    Russ
