Hey Cousin Russ , when you use Evidentia to record information from a census record, do you record a relationship claim between mother and child? For example, the census will often spell out the relationship of a child to the head of household (the father for example), but it doesn't really specify whether the mother listed is the birth mother of the child.  I know in the 1930 census, it lists age of first marriage but that doesn't necessarily mean it was to that spouse. Thoughts?

  1. Michelle Dickens -- Do I record Relationships when the record shows that relationship?

    Easy Answer:

    YOU BET / YES

First Marriage as well. BUT you really need to be careful with that one. You can NOT assume that the "husband" / Head of household what the first husband.

    Hope that helps,

    Russ

  2. +Michelle Dickens this is an area where you have to be aware of what the record states. Even when you record as seen how that is interpreted in the analysis is SO dependent on an understanding of the records. It is worth looking at the instructions to the enumerators.
