Is there a program in FTM2014 for me to see who I have for each generation? Or do I go ancestor to ancestor to find the numbers. I have a a 8/8 in my 4th generation but only 15/16 in 5th and 30/32 in the 6th. I manual counted them.
Russ Worthington Thank you. That is what I thought. I did it that way last year. I'm not expecting much of a change. I spent my year filling in sources, citations and records for the first five generations. I Think I may never find my 5th gt grandmother paternal side. I believe it was, as the family tradition stated, "a event with a nine year old child with an unknown male." Maybe my DNA test will turn something up. Do I really want to know? I think so? Rumors lead me to a possibility.
An easy way to do this in FTM 3 Mac is to select the base person, i.e., myself and then go to the Publish tab. Select the Vertical Pedigree Chart. The settings I selected were: Spacing = Squished Generations = 12 Center tree on page = unselected Include empty branches = unselected Show generation labels = SELECTED Include spouses of primary individual = unselected Boxes overlap page breaks = unselected
This gave me a 9 page report and allowed me to easily count each generation. I used the zoom feature to count so I didn't have to waste paper printing. Hope this is helpful.
Publish Workspace, Person Collection, Custom Report. Using the Selected Individuals, select yourself, and your Ancestors. That will filter your direct line. Then, Using the SHARE option, Export to a .CSV file and open that file in EXCEL or a SpreadSheet program. I have in the Items to Select menu, the Name and the Person ID. I have manually created PersonIDs for my direct line, so I know where the person fits in. Took me about 10 minutes to create the report I needed
On this report you will also want to add a Generation Label for yourself as the program does not do so. I then counted the number of people across each generation, on each page, then entered the numbers into a Google spreadsheet. You will notice that my results chart is upside down. I did this to make entering the numbers from each page easier. Feel free to comment/copy: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vSIm9LEWElAcyae0kUTKboVsHknO1GSIoK0CyvyhKH0/edit?usp=sharing
Interesting. Do you have, or can you tell me more, about how you set up PersonIDs? This seemed the easiest way for me since I don't have those but I would like to learn more. Do you use PersonIDs a lot? Thinking about time justification.
Tiffany Nash - I did a blog post - http://ftmuser.blogspot.com/search/label/PersonID ---- that is a manually assigned Reference Number. I turned that feature ON in the Tools, Options, Reference Number tab. I added a prefix as part of the automatic feature. Then, I went to the People Workspace, TREE View, did a Filter on My Direct Ancestors, then manually assigned each person's number. I am #1, my Father is double my number, my Mother is my Father's number plus 1 (+1). Each of my ancestors are assigned the say way. The person's father is double what the persons number is, that persons mother is the father's number 1.FM Brasil
I did this in response to a Randy Seaver blogpost earlier this month. My results and how I did it are in my blog here: http://tinyurl.com/Lynna10e-AncScore . The link to Randy's original blogpost is also there. I'm going to need to put this in my "tickler" file for January 2017 to see if I've made any progress.
I posted my response on my Google + profile. Not sure how to post graph or link her. Maybe when I do my completed blog about it I can post the link. Still learning new technical idea. It was my first graph in Word.
Thanks for sharing. I didn't know Legacy has this capability. I immediately ran my statistics.

ReplyDeleteJune,
ReplyDeleteThat's where I got my data from and I just posted my score, as I did 4 years ago.
